Unsorted blast rock is highly functional and the perfect product for cost-effectively filling large areas. It is excellent for creating a weight bearing subsurface, and for traversing very wet areas. The thickness of product application is what will determine the weight bearing capacity. Please get in touch for more details on how you can use Landtec unsorted blast rock in your project.
Coarse Sub-grade Crush (5” minus), with fines, is excellent for creating weight-bearing surfaces. As with the Special Grade Sub-Base (SGSB), the Coarse Sub-grade Crush is still gradable and contains fines to create ideal binding and compaction. When compacted, this product will lock together like puzzle pieces creating an incredibly strong sub-base for your project.
Coarse Sub-grade Crush is best suited for larger fills and wet areas. Often used in areas with poor drainage, in landscaping where elevation adjustments are needed, or where heavy weight-bearing capacity is required, such as on logging roads. Coarse Sub-grade Crush has fewer steps to its production process, and we price it accordingly, making it an economical option for your project.
Special Granular Sub Base (SGSB) creates a solid, gradable surface ready for topping with road crush. Common uses include sub bases of driveways and roads. Great for rough surfacing during construction phases, and before finishing phases.
SGSB is blue basalt that has been blasted, crushed and screened to 3” minus with fines left in for optimal binding and compaction. For best results, compact after application to lock the product together like jigsaw pieces, resulting in a very stable surface.
Good for filling slightly muddy areas under 30 cm / 12” in depth. (Deeper areas should use a coarser product, such as a 5” minus or larger.) If your site is very wet and muddy, we recommend the 5” minus and larger products instead of SGSB for better drainage.
Rip Rap are large blasted rocks that are custom sorted to your size specification. Sizes vary from 1 foot (30 cm) to 5 feet (150 cm) in diameter.
Rip Rap is angular and has excellent weight-bearing, stacking and locking capabilities. Landtec Rip Rap has been independently tested and approved for use in aquatic / marine environments. Made from Landtec’s blue basalt, it is both beautiful and functional for creating rock walls, breakwaters, dock abutments, erosion control and stream rehabilitation.
